The basics of the Treasurer position are:
Budgeting
The treasurer works with the board to develop an annual budget, which involves forecasting income and expenses. The fiscal year runs from August 1 - July 31st of each year.
Financial reporting
The treasurer presents financial reports to the board and general members, often at meetings. The treasurer must keep financial records up to date so that reports can be prepared in time for meetings.
Bank reconciliation
The treasurer reconciles bank accounts to ensure that the checkbook balance matches the bank balance.
Accounting
The treasurer may pay bills, deposit checks and cash, and record transactions.
Organizing
The treasurer shall have an updated statement of account available for each meeting, showing the status of the bank account, deposits, expenses and how it all aligns with the pre-approved/established budget for the fiscal year.
The treasurer organizes the books for an annual audit.
